Quick question for those of you occasionally post mixes you've done on here. How do you record the mixes? I assumed directly into Audacity or the like, but doing a bit of research it seems to be a bit more complicated than that. I've seen a Behringer UCA202 get mentioned a bit, do I need to get something like this? Or is there a cable that can go direct?

I've got a couple of CD decks, a mixer and an amp. Just need to know how and what to hook up to the laptop. Thanks!

Blip.. Mixmeister is an enjoyable and multifaceted program for doing the occasional mix. It has many fairly easy tools to use for mixing.. all manner of FX and the like.. beatmapping, pitchshifting, automated tempo adjustment etc etc

Thanks DC. And thank you James. Appreciate the response.

I'm not actually after any kind of mixing software, I prefer the manual approach with the decks and mixer. Just trying to find an easy way to record a mix live. In decades gone by I used to do it direct onto tape olde stylee. Then I got a separate Cd recorder and recorded direct to CD. Now I want to record it direct onto the pooter.

Blip, if you still have all your manual gear, then all you would need is a means to get the music onto the computer.

If it's just a casual affair then you could probably get away with just using your computer soundcard's 'line-in' and freeware software such as Audacity.

That's if you just want to keep it simple, but, you could take a step up from there and buy a small audio interface which connect via usb to your computer.. there's a good selection of those on the market nowadays.

Yup - what deadcase said.
If they're just mixes to be uploaded as mp3s for web use then your line in will be okay.
You just need to watch the level coming out of your mixer.
Record into audacity or anything like that.
No real need to spend any cash unless you want super high sound quality.
