RIP Lemmy.
It's a bit interesting that his "downfall" is so well documented from their cancelled Texas gig to all the interviews.
As we progress in time the better documented these classic self-destruct heroes' last days will be with all these appearances of decline. It's quite touching actually.
I wonder if Lemmy was the high point of this, as I don't really know of anyone else leading such heavy life nowadays...Ozzy + Iggy are quitters now aren't they? Who are left? Or is there anyone in the newer generation of this caliber? |

What kind of a world is it where Lemmy's gone yet Dick Cheney still lives? |

that's very sad news... But as Avocado mentioned, he lived his life his way, had a good run, no regrets and had a chance to make people happy with his music, sense of humor, wit and all around inspiring and awesome personality. RIP Lemmy.
But to think that it happened only a few weeks after Philthy's death, tough year for Motorhead fans |

If you like rock 'n roll cliches and such, I can see a sort of misty-eyed reflection of this guy's life and the nagging realization of the tragic impossibility of immortality. But if you're smart you get over this and get on with the work of being an artist. How is his passing in any way sad or unexpected? Perhaps he lived a little bit longer than most due to good genes (and an avoidance of opiates, the wimp), but he still died exactly how he was expected to. And he ducked out rather quickly for someone admired for their 'dogged insolence despite mounting opposition to the contrary.'
Point is, if you value the artist and their work, what is the point of eulogizing this lightweight? Releasing the same album 18 times, almost the same song, is not impressive. He's remembered and idolized in the main for his strict adherence to the mandates of hedonism and all the Lemmings (how appropriate) who realize the amount of social currency paid for this dedication in the realm of r'n'r in the forms of fame, fortune and pleasures of the flesh leap enthusiastically over the cliff. But which Motorhead album is a real revelation?
As always, the artists carry on with the mundane business of cutting and polishing new facets of truth with an urgency because time is fleeting. The fakes concern themselves with the seductive art of appearing like what they are not.
Later Lemmy. |
