I'd tell you a joke about Jonestown but the punch line is too long...

I recently had the *joy* of hearing some J2 at Hibakusha's place... and since J2 has appeared in this thread I'm going to stay ignorant of this one.

Hibakusha and I had made a list of bad JKB we were going to listen to one night... it started to get quite long, mainly because of Jesu that we decided to think a bit more positively and instead listened to some funky pop music by When.

I'm struggling to get on with Mark Kozelek at the moment. To an extent I find his process quite appealing: just a babble of sensory experience and live narrative, presented in a stream of consciousness that doesn't differentiate between the mundane and the interesting.

However. He made some slightly uncomfortable remarks about women, and his relationship with his band seemed awkwardly dictatorial. I didn't warm to him. Essentially this preview track confirms what I suspected from the promo photo, with Mark half-eclipsing Justin in the shot: this feels like a Sun Kil Moon album, with Justin accommodating the presence of Mark without the gesture being reciprocated.

But hey. Perhaps the rest of the record will be different. I'll wait and see.

Mark is cool...he has kind of become a professional troll as of late...his trash talking is like his version of performance art...I wouldn't take it to seriously...

Mmmaah. I think trashtalking women - performance art or not - is difficult to let slide.

i'm just stoked that this project puts Justin and 2/3 of Low on the same track--if it could possibly lead to a direct Sparhawk/Broadrick collab--might result in some pretty great stuff.

You guys .....

I pull off one of the biggest face saving maneuvers in the history of the board and you shoot Klaw down anyway.

I'm not trying this again.

Sorrry Matt, I tried.

Jesu/Sun Kil Moon will play a spoken word piece in Paris (Divan du Monde, Feb 22nd) dedicated to the victims of this year's terror attacks, and an there'll be an Elliot Smith Tribute album (Laundromat Records) that includes Jesu/Sun Kil Moon's version of "Condor Ave."

When was excellent! Next time we meet, we'll listen through Jarboe's solo albums.

ReallY? Fuck...I love Kozelek...huge Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon fan...and of course JKB...I haven't listened to this yet out of fear of it sucking...and the word around here has not been kind,to say the least...I will check it when a physical copy arrives and decide for myself of course...but it does seem as if the writing's on the wall...damn,I really wanted this to be great..

If you like Kozelek's voice then I'm sure you'll find this ok at least.

His talk-singing reminds me too much of the Hold Steady for me not to wince and feel nauseous when I hear it.

yeah,.,it pretty much sucks. JKB's part is decent, even interesting at times, but Kozolek Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes and Doomy, I'm a big Red House/Sun Kill fan myself, but he's just straight up ANNOYING. This recording sounds emailed/copy/pasted/back n forth,.,and he's repetitive. I would have liked to hear what Justin would have done with the vocals. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Never listened to SKM and know nothing of Mark Kozelek but this just makes me yearn for another standard Jesu LP. I loved Everyday I Get Closer...Miss that Jesu sound. Vocals though...man...

On one hand there's some nice moments. On the other, I don't give that much of a shit about Mark's day-to-day to enjoy many repeats of this record.
