According to JKB on facebook this morning, in reply to some who were moaning (quite rightly) about the forthcoming Jesu/Sun Kil Moon LP.

"quite rightly" ???

What gives people the impression that they can "quite rightly" whinge about an artistic product? If they don't like it then they should deal with it, or do they have some sort of privileged that means they should dictate when an artist does something?

If we are talking about some drug junkie screw-up ala Nacht Mysticism not delivering "product" people have actually paid for that's one thing and can be considered "quite rightly" being pissed off but people saying "I don't like that, why are you not doing something better that I like?!?!", just fuck off with that shit.

Pelican are shite by the way.

So I take it you're all chuffed to listen to Kozelek talking over yet another Jesu LP?

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I thoroughly enjoy the collab album. I'm happy to give a listen to all Justin output. I would be more worried if he didn't put out stuff that was challenging.

As for this news, great to hear. Three more projects I look forward to hearing.

Not really the point(although I love Kozelek and like his work with Red House Painters better than Jesu)...the point is that an artists creativity shouldn't be dictated by the desires of the fans...

I actually didn't even hate J2 as much as most but I sure had a fun time jumping on the bandwagon and bashing it Twisted Evil ...

By the way Indub, I wasn't implying that you were guilty of this...I just see this becoming more and more of a thing which is another reason I don't have a FB account...I am a big fan of Buckethead's guitar playing and I recently went on some forum and all it was was just people saying "Buckethead should make another album that sounds like so and so" and "Buckethead should go back to sounding like he did on fill in the fucking blank"...and it's just so annoying...artists can't be swayed by the public and their fucking fan based needs...might as well just stop doing it altogether if that becomes your impetus for creating art...

I see Opeth get this treatment all the time and they aren't the only ones...regardless of what you think about Opeth,(love them, hate them or indifferent)you gotta give it up to Mikael...the guy gets constantly bombarded with shit from fans wanting the band to return to the old death metal vocal days...he doesn't bow to the pressure and continues to go in his new prog-influenced direction...I find that admirable in a day when so many "artists" are so easily swayed by public opinion...many whose enitre manufactured career's are based on just that...

If you start pandering to your fans you've lost.

There's a fine line between a demand and a wish.

Fans wishing an artist would do X isn't wrong. I think it's called daydreaming.

Though I might be wrong and society interprets a daydream voiced a request straight.

Or maybe I'm not getting the subtleties of these words...

Anyways, I don't think involving / listening to your audience would be a break in artistic integrity. Strictly following them however......completely different thing.

I think that is all we have been trying to convey...

Quiet 'round these parts. Just revisited this thread. As we digressed into that dialogue there, I had two points.

First...what I always loved about JKB and his work was that he did whatever the fuck he wanted. Sure, I loathe the SKM/Jesu LP...but who gives a shit. He wanted to do it.

Second...did we forget that new GF is coming? That's kick-ass news!

I think we all at some point or another wish for a certain output but whatever comes of it, we respect, admire and ultimately come to love. Except J2 ;P
Honestly, I'm just glad Justin didn't die in 2016 Smile
