i checked out amen ra from a post off this board (i think benard posted it?) and dug the tracks on the myspace page. so, i ordered the album from conspiracy recs and got it a few days ago...

this albums owns! a definite buy for neurosis fans.

the album stylistically has a heavy neurosis influence, but also reminds me a lot of will haven. except this is the album that will haven was never capable of producing. so take the heaviest moments of neurosis, with the sludge-groove moments of will haven and you've essentially got amen ra.

all screamed vocals, two guitarists, basic riffing, but great execution and lots of pummeling and noise tangents.

great album cover art work as well.

I've been listening to this one whilst at work on and off for a week or so now.. and whilst its all neurosis-y(!) and I like it.. I'm finding it quite two dimensional.. which isn't a bad thing I suppose if thats what you're after... but thus far this record has yet to hit the spot.. but then if I'm honest listening to tunes at work isn't always the best place to acquaint yourself with new tunages.. so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now... oh and because Mr Elrrekio will kick me on the arse! lol

On record they are great ... but it's really a band you should see live. So much more magical and apocalyptic then and the songs really come to their right then.

Great band. Especially live - better than on CD. I bought numerous merchandise-items for my self and a certain scottish member of the board who was to lazy to attend the gig himself.

LoL , didn't know someone from West-Vlaanderen was on the board. If you look at it from Belgian perspective, thats not really "my" area Very Happy .
But I figured everyone here was from another country and since Belgium is so small .... well you get the picture.
I study in Leuven and live somewhere not to far from Antwerp.

Ah, Antwerp. Great place to lose all your money in cd/lp-shopping. JJ Records in leuven is also pretty nice. Wink

Spun it a few times again, always blown away by how colossal it sounds.

".die strafe. am kruez." is one of the best songs I have ever heard.

I realise that I am being gushing here and perhaps a little over the top but it is fucking amazing.

I'd agree with that Isc, it's not particularly "new", but what they are doing they do very well and retain enough of an originality - mostly through the afore mentioned massiveness - to exist outside of their influences.
