i'll stick a full review in presently but here's a few lines on potential avalancher interest bands at what for we was a truly fantastic few days, roasting sunshine, well organised, good company, liver abusing oblivion.
carcass - top sound but workmanlike, meant a lot to a lot of people there who hadn't seen them before. no exhume to consume the ken owen show was... sad
mayhem - raw and chaotic theatrics, attila as ss priest stylee
treponem pal - effective but rockier than i remembered from back in the day
watain - the best of the black, relentless and filthy
ministry - al looked like the industrial ozzy (not a good thing) but performance was good if short
slayer - old men pacing themselves but they have THE songs
motorhead - again a pretty slower paced set with some longer old songs, but throw in scantily clad women and everyone's happy
morbid angel - had forgotten just what a vicious proposition they were, new stuff sounded good too
obituary - took a while to get in the groove but riff after riff after riff...
origin - the bass player made me reassess my whole playing career, never seen anything like the speed
year of no light - probably via mention here checked them, awesome, the notorious "post metal" done with the searing roar of early COL
and many more |

On the strength of the CoL comment I suppose I better check this bunch out again but having tried their mysapce I really thought they were the epitome of "meh" ... |

did you catch french band Punish Yourself? They're friends of mine and during the 1st song, the singer attempted an unfortunate stage diving, fell on the security stuff and break 5 ribs... good job |

i certainly did, my friend recommended them after a bit of pre-trip research and we enjoyed them a lot as something somewhat in contrast to the core of the festival. it turned into a pretty brutal rave based upon their kmfdm styings, but i wasnt aware of that incident - he carried on! Chatting to locals after it seemed they were held in good respect (unlike a lot of what they admitted were largely generic french bands) but then it was off to Ministry! |

I was pretty impressed by their Roadburn performance this year. Bought the record and it couldindeed not hold up to the live set. |
