I thought I'd post about a few things that Black Galaxy are involved with at the moment (just to let anyone who is interested know)...
Black Galaxy – Sound Responses Black Galaxy are undertaking a short English tour in October 2006 as part of a touring programme of film curated by 7 Inch Cinema .
The programme is an evening of music video, animated film, narrative shorts and short art films. As part of the evening, Black Galaxy will be providing improvised sound responses to ‘Etoile de Mer’ (France 1928 – Man Ray) and ‘Lot in Sodom’ (USA 1933 – Watson & Webber): both films are experimental works using fractured narrative, symbolic imagery and experimental camerawork.
The tour is still in the process of being organised but it is planned to visit Leicester, Coventry, Manchester, London (and possibly Nottingham).
Black Galaxy will also be presenting a night of experimental film and live improvised sound as part of the 2006 Flatpack Film Festival in Birmingham, England.
Black Galaxy – Collaboration with Helena Gough
Black Galaxy are beginning a collaborative project with the sound artist Helena Gough who is currently working with Thomas Koner.
The collaboration will probably take the form of live performances (including a performance as part of an evening curated by Cyrk at the 2006 Flatpack Film Festival in Birmingham, England).
Kreepa/Black Galaxy album Kreepa / Black Galaxy have recorded an album of their collaboration which is currently being mixed in Amsterdam, Birmingham and Leicester.
The album features 8 compositions and includes instrumentation such as trombone, the ‘Kreepback’ machine, laptop, tone generator, prepared guitar, gong, dulcimer, dictaphone, voice and amplified objects.
The album is scheduled for release in early 2007 on the Austrian label Charhizma.
Kreepa vs Black Galaxy – Live Video
Below is a link to a webpage which includes a short video clip of the most recent Kreepa vs Black Galaxy performance (as part of a concert with Hair Police (USA), Putrefier (UK) and Feast of Ishtar (UK)).
We are setting up a loose ‘umbrella’ organisation called Monium in order to release recordings and relay information related to concerts and collaborations.
A website should be available soon.
Kreepa album on Monium
A Kreepa album will be released on Monium in an edition of 500 copies at the end of 2006. The album features compositions recorded over the last 4 years.
A John S. Richards & Nicholas James Bullen album has been recorded and is currently being mixed for release on Monium. The album features 4 compositions and includes instrumentation such as the ‘Kreepback’ machine, prepared guitar, dulcimer (prepared and bowed), gong (bowed) and turntables.
