Into the Depths of Sorrow is the debut album by Texan Doom Metal band Solitude Aeturnus released back in '91.There is a progressive edge to this album that reminds me of some of Peter Gabriels early work especially PG3.The songs are heavy epics but catchy enough to sing along to.That is down to John Perez's monster riffing and especially the vocals of Robert Lowe, one of the greatest singers Ive ever heard lift a microphone. It starts with 'Dawn of Antiquity' a strange type of chant setting the doomish tone in just over a minute. Then arguably the best song on the album 'Opaque Divinity' ..very much a prog rock influenced down tuner with Lowe demonstrating just why Candlemass recruited him as their new session singer. He is emotive with every word and ensures the listener that what he says is pure truth. You find you believe him and you feel his passion.Tracks such as 'Destiny Falls to Ruin' and 'White Ship' follow at a cultish slow pace, yet these are the kind of subtle technical tracks that you would find yourself singing to yourself anywhere, they glue onto the brain. When a solo comes in, you know the next riff is coming up and every riff complements its colleague. This is far more technical than any other doom record I own but also catchier. Therefore Im like a Pig in Shit listening to it.Its warm. Its killer and Robert Lowe is the true Disciple of Doom |

Great band. Not one single bad album in their career. Rob Lowe is probably the best metal singer out there. If Dio ever retires, here's where Tony Iommi should look for a replacement.
Check out the side-project Concept Of God as well.
