this is a turning out to be a banner year for the marquee old school 'industrialists' from the 80-90s. just off the top of my head, all of these artists have released or are planning to release an album this year.

SP - loving it
kmfdm - meh
ministry - meh x 10000
fla - in july
delerium
nin
mbm - rumored
godflesh - fingers crossed

bill leeb even joked about doing a tour with puppy and having fla be special guests... it's crazy town out there.

Ah - I really like it.
As far as stadium 'industrial' goes it's pretty damn good - kinda harks back to PHM - which was a super accessable album too.

Congratulations to the coder of the algorithm that produced the most by-the-numbers Nine Inch Nails record. I swear you can guess the cadence, lyrics and sounds to be used four bars in advance of their landing. Quite laughable.

Very, very average display on NIN-ery, rather disappointing.

I would have thought with the fact that Adrian Belew was announced as a "guitarist" in the live band then something interesting might have transpired but ... no, sorry, just more pedestrian Trent Reznor and I actually quite like NIN.

I thought I heard that Belew played on the album...along with Eric Avery he quit and will not be touring with the band...

See, I already expected that. I havenít been a NIN fan in years. I liked them once when I was in high school, but they were a band that I almost immediately grew out of when I discovered bigger and better things. Nowadays I really canít stand any of their recent output. However, if I want to listen to anything from Trent I will put on the Quake soundtrack or maybe TDS.

I think one of the biggest problems I have with NIN is the faux-angst. The guy is a multimillionaire with a life that any struggling musician would kill for and itís difficult to take it seriously on any level.

Precisely, I've always thought that his lyrics were pretty terrible. It's like mostly just being "dark" for the sake of it. I liked some of the Ghost's I-IV material. It was nice to have some of the atmospheric stuff with out the angst bullshit. He should do more of that, surely he can afford to? There are enough NIN fanatics that will buy everything he does surely...

Trent Reznor = nice bloke in nice eighties synth pop band making nice doodly blip noises and all is well with the World.

Then meets a girl, she breaks his heart and voila Pretty Hate Machine is born. All his hatred and loathing went into that release. After that he left himself no place to go musically. Could hardly make a U turn. Downward Spiral was ok in places, but after that, sorry- did nothing for me.

He ended up channeling a lot of that stuff into the soundtracks that he did for some of David Fincherís recent films. I totally agree with you and much prefer that stuff to NIN.

funny how each time NIN is mentioned here, we end up with more or less the same thread! Very Happy

I noticed some other bands tend to get the same treatment (Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, Slayer... are some of those that immediately come to my mind)

And anything Devin Townsend has been involved in... Mad

Strange how we all have an interest in JKB's music but have such crappy music tastes (I'm including myself as well) outside of JKB's music.

Yes, that may be the case: http://www.avalanchers.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=4523

I would rather have an elephant sit on me than listen to either NIN or Devin Townsend... amazing that these two 'artists' get mentioned on here? Again just shows that JKB is our common link and I'm sure many of us avalanchers don't have much in common music taste wise lol

Please, don't use the word "crappy". I've been traumatized during my teenager years because I was that kid with different music tastes (mostly Heavy Metal at that time). And everybody around me was saying that my musical tastes were crap. It was so intolerant and hurting. I wasn't asking anything from them: I didn't need to be aggressed by them. It was my thing and I didn't need / wasn't asking for their approval. Crying or Very sad

We are here because we like JKB's music. And even there, some people disagree on what they like or dislike. For instance, I don't like Curse Of The Golden Vampire, while some seem to think it's genius work... Some love Jesu, some just hate it and some think the first album was the only good thing JKB did under that moniker... But that's cool. Because for me, what we don't share is more interesting than what we have in common. I've read some constructive opinions here that made me want to think again about my perception of things. Sometimes I changed my mind, sometimes I didn't. But that was intellectually challenging.

At the end of the day, I like to think that there are only 2 types of music: the one I like and the one I don't. The one that touches me and the one that does nothing for me. You have the right to say you don't like it, or that you just love it. But don't use the word crap anymore, please.

That was my naive minute. You can go back to your reading.
Very Happy

Sorry for using the c word, let's just say 'unusual' Wink

I know what you mean about the teenage years and everyone not appreciating the music one listens to... hell, I still get it at home with the missus lol

This is 100% true and 100% subjective.

I agree with you while reserving the right to describe something as "crap".

For example, The Beatles are "crap". And that's just my opinion, man.

Anthrax with who?

NIN have some excellent songs, just not many of them sound like this one and unfortunately there are lots of other NIN songs that DO sound like this one, so why do we need this one?

Yes,the last Ministry album was a total abortion...he should have stayed retired...that being said, you are missing out big time if you havn't heard anything since Psalm because Filth Pig and Dark Side of the Spoon fucking rule...strange but wonderful albums...Filth Pig is a junk metal sludge fest that is heavy, druggy and even has some nods to Godflesh(who were their support act on that tour)....and Dark Side of the Spoon is Al in the throes of addiction being highly experimental and awesome...banjo's and saxophones on a Ministry album=incredible...my 2 favorite Ministry records, hands down...and Animositosomina is also highly underrated...Barker's last record is a heavy as balls...not the greatest mix but still a really cool record...
