Performances and Godflesh in general, pretty much talk Concrete details of the album itself, not so much. It's still in demo stage and recording should start late this year, release next spring |

Conclusive evidence that JKB reads the forum:
I’ve seen some negative criticism floating around the internet about this album. Criticism that honestly makes me laugh, cause some of these people have said my shit is out of tune. That’s a ridiculous statement to make. I mean I’m fine with whatever, criticize the songwriting, the style, the sound, whatever, but criticizing my ability to tune my instruments is fucking incredible. Most reviews, even negative, are valid because they make a point, but in these instances you see how people are just fucking ignorant and annoying. You don’t get it, that’s fine, but don’t make a fool of yourself saying it’s out of tune.
He's right, too.

"it's out of tune" was such a ridiculous thing to say I thought it would be obvious that I was being facetious. I mean has anyone listened to my stuff or anything I've recommended? I'm the exact opposite of "that metal guy". |

If you going to lurk on your own fan forums, you're going to have to take the rough with smooth, Justin. You're more than welcome to register an account and call me a dick to my face. You wouldn't be the first
What I do have a problem with in this interview is the continuation of the false idea that the people criticising jesu are bone-headed, conservative metallers. While there are probably plenty of them, there are also plenty of people here who love hip-hop, electronica, pop and a million other genres and think jesu is nowhere near achieving full Broadrick potential. Hey, I'm a fan of Kate Bush and Boards of Canada as well. It's just the Teenage Fanclub I have a problem with. |

Im still lurking in the shadows LOL.
I like some of the new jesu, but I dont think he reads here since those out of tune comments are on youtube and he has a channel there so he would read that stuff on his own songs
I wouldnt take it personally at all same with tour comments as well they were everywhere not just here
Ive thought of just asking him on facebook, anyone?

I've got 'The Great Leveller' on right now and to be honest the extreme warble chorus effect on the clean electric guitar is not pleasant and sounds distinctly odd. I am talking about the later half of the song here.
For those of you not into guitar effects, chorus is an effect you often hear used on clean guitars to make it sort of shimmer. Andy Summers from The Police used it a lot, goth bands in the 80s loved it, Metallica used it all over their ballads. It modulates the sound of your instrument sometimes by adding a very slightly tuned note to whatever you are playing and naturally thickens the sound of your notes in the same way that a choir singing has a fuller and more 'rich' sound when compared to a single voice singing.
If you push the parameters of the effect to the extremes, depth of the effect, the speed of modulation, you can easily get ghe effected instrument to sound out of tune compared to the other instruments playing in the piece.
The title track of the album is also very difficult for me to listen to. The bass sounds just fine, the synth pads sound okay in relation to the bass, the vocals are ... interesting, but the melody instrumentation again has this weird effect on it that is making me seasick.
I don't get it. It's clearly deliberate because it's all over the record and I can find places where it's cool and I actually like it, 'grey is the colour' has some nice moments but then the synth pads come in and just sound 'out' in relation to the bass and the guitar.
Intonation on my own guitars drives me mad and I have nearly come to blows with band members on the subject of poor tuning so this record is really baffling me. I'd love to actually ask jkb what the deal is, lol. |

Thankyou for putting this into words Elrrek! That's EXACTLY how I felt initially when listening to this. Yet, somehow after a few listens in the 'background' while doing other stuff, it makes sense again. And now It doesn't bother me at all. This effect is probably THE Jesu signature sound, because it's all over most Jesu releases, this time it's just a bit more obvious. |

I can understand that nhtp, I would see it as the same as when I used to car share to get to work and on the days that the 55 year old dude was driving we would have to listen to old persons Radio 2 and some of the crap that got played there over time became tolerable to the extent that I didn't automatically sneer whenever Pink Floyd got played and I fucking hate Pink Floyd.
If you subject yourself to something, repeatedly, it becomes tolerable, no matter how much you hate it to begin with, continued exposure to it reduces extreme reactions over time.
As for this being the "signature" sound of Jesu, I can't say. I don't have anything between "Lifeline" and "Everyday ..." but if this is his "thing" I may go back to waiting for stuff that is released where the word "flesh" is included in the "band" name. |

I guess "Tolerable" is not the right word, because I don't fucking hate Jesu . The sound just make sense to me somehow.
As far as JKB using this chorus effect on most Jesu albums, I think I have to take that back. The Jesu sound is still distinct, I just can't put my figure on it.. |

I'm with you there. Youtube for some reason really does seem like the bottom of the barrel in terms of comments. I'm constantly amazed that some of those who comment have the ability to type the things they think. |

He needs to either ignore online critiques of his music, positive or negative, or learn to not respond to them. Nothing worse than somebody getting defensive about their own music like that, whether warranted or not. |
