As promised, A World Lit Only by Fire is due this Fall.

After getting the band back together last year, Justin Broadrick and company released the Decline and Fall EP, a four-track effort that marked the band’s first new material since 2001′s Hymns.

Broadrick had previously teased a full-length effort entitled A World Lit Only by Fire, and the album now has a release date: October 7, via his own Avalanche imprint. The cover art and tracklist are below, along with the predictably brutal single ‘New Dark Ages’. [via Pitchfork]

Fun track. Could use some messed up narration movie sample at 2:49.

Funny how the initial drum pattern reminded me of this:

The song fucking rocks, but I'm liking the production on the e.p. better (the drums on this seem a little thinner and the bass is not as full). However, I am well aware how over compressed this soundcloud version may be. Pleasant surprise though seeing this posted after I indulged in some greenery. Twisted Evil

I'm going to say sword considering Justin screams "wield this sword!" during the track, but the duality of the image is probably intended.

Fuck me, Justin wasn't kidding when he said it was incredibly heavy and minimalist Very Happy It was an awesome opener live and this recorded version is just as good.

That's great. They should give Mick his own column in Melody Maker.

Does Mick Harris actually exist? Or is "he" just a computer program that spits out the same response to everything that's fed it?

Just like Scorn's output since the mid-'90s.

I always really liked british murder boys, what's his gripe with them. wasn't he supposed to be friends with those guys? oh yeah something about them being commercial/sell out?? I don't see it. dance music is supposed to be accessible and flex the cones. hard techno is for the floor.

I used to talk fishing with Mick though I've not heard from him in years,

He must have realized just how bullshit making swinglessly-sequenced generic cartoon sounds the entirety of your musical output is.

no, actually he liked my label quite well actually. Though as I recall it he wanted some of the current value records to have more bass.

you dunno jack about jungle anyway, Son. stick to your first EHG record. and btw you live in a bullshit town, where they set a river on fire in a rustbelt shite part of the country. next time stay on the tracks a little bit longer

Scorn's stuff in the nineties was actually good. Gyral and logghi are faves of mine. I also like some of the stuff on hymen, that live mix he did of that material plus a few unreleased bits on a polish label (blue cover) was really great.

pity these guys can't put the bitterness behind them and make peace, it's been such a long time. need grudges be like diamonds? I'd always been told that Justin and Mick's personalities were more alike than they were different, maybe that's the problem, who knows who cares.

p.s. forgot to say that bracket remix of scorn gravel bed on combat uk is an amazing track. that was a great label, is it still going?

It's nothing to do with Justin. Mick is well known round here for posting nasty personal attacks at people he previously worked with.

I am by no means trying to start a Harris vs. Broadrick polemic. I've read Mick's dubthreats for years and while some of it was humorous to a point, I agree that he should disband with the personal attacks. It doesn't help anyone. And it's good that Justin doesn't acknowledge it and just keeps on putting out music. As for their lover's quarrel, two to tango. I've heard varying things but it's really none of my business nor does a soap opera interest me.

what does interest me is that despite the antipathy that is directed toward Harris herein and elsewhere. and bear in mind I'm not defending his conduct- hardly, but the guy did make some good tracks. I have friends that turned their backs on Harris completely for very personal reasons, justifiable reasons, but I seriously doubt they'd denounce his backcatalogue, if so they'd be denouncing themselves.
there was some filler and snores in the scorn discography but there were some heavy beats and bass to be had to. I kinda wish he hadn't have cut that dubstep record stealth though - the record was fine, some good moments but it seemed evident that he was using that twostep framework. I much prefer the breakier stuff on hymen

I have no quibbles about Mick being a fiercely talented artist, but he wouldn't be the first by a long shot to have 'personal issues'.

Of the recent Scorn, it was the tracks with the live drums that worked best for me on 'Refuse...' for example. Bit more groove in them.

I still have the ellipsis 5x12" box set. I also quite liked his possible records label.

there were a few good tunes on that matera project he did with the meathead guy on invisible. still have tons of harris stuff on wax.

Was talking about British Music Boys and techno in general but OK I guess this includes you too. To be honest, I've read maybe two of your 2000 posts (I like the short ones where you express yourself the least) so I just realized that you are really into techno. So now, you don't exist. Whereas before, your existence was all *INCANDESCENT* in these two legendary posts that I read. Why did you have to ruin everything?

you said "your musical output", if you'd been referring to bmb you would've said "their musical output". read pretty clearly like you were taking a piss. doesn't matter man, you don't have to like it.

my point was, if you like techno, which I do as does harris, why fault bmb, they put out some bangin' records, complete with a Jim Jones monologue over an ambient drone for good measure. I thought harris was involved with downwards actually at one point anyway. if you're gonna bash bmb then you might as well hate on joey beltram, human resource, old aphex twin, Detroit techno in general. regis killed it at the godflesh show in Miami.

Nope. He works like 2 days a week as a janitor now and just sits on his days off being bitter that Justin and Ben (and everyone else hes ever worked with) actually make music people wanna hear for a living..

If milking it means getting paid properly for dragging all my shit around the world on the road and paying the bills, then god damn I wanna be a milkman too while playing my Telecaster all day.. Would be nice to have a bass player that tunes to Z Flat too..

Finally had the chance to listen to the new track on my monitors yesterday..
I DIDNT KNOW MY TANNOYS COULD PUT OUT THAT LOW END FUCK ME!!!!

Milk that shit for all its worth Jus.. SPITE them all...
