Back in the day I'd offer you some cool shit for getting this right. But nowadays you guys have all the cool shit and I'm just an old bastard. SO....

I updated the JKB Master Song list tonight. Every song he ever appeared on (plus Ben's Vitriol). All projects, etc.etc.etc. I just hit 1,000 songs (1,009) and my question to you is:

How many of those 1,000 songs are over 10 minutes long?

Don't cheat. Just wing it. My stupid contribution of the day as I finally listen to Live Reprocessed. Curious to your guesses. Winner gets nothing. Sorry.

just a random number, I am gonna go for 10% of the catalogue, which let's say is 102 over-10-min songs?

131...just over 10%, really. Not a bad guess!

That's a lot of long material.

wow would've guessed like 30 tops...there're that 5-6 God jams, Go Spread Your Wounds, that Jesu record with the long song, Heartache sides, multiply this by 2 just in case.....wtf are the rest? what did i miss? Final songs are usually not that long.

ok just browsed your site for a bit......guess it kinda shows i'm here for the Plotkin/Harris/Bullen/Cochrane/Neville stuff first, actually more than half of JKB stuff (esp post-2006ish) i've never heard. some catching up to do.............

so what do you recommend? godflesh i've been following throughout, i stopped following final around 3, i stopped following jesu around silver.

vaguely remember this j2 you talk about all the time is it any good?

I'd recommend JKFlesh and Blood Of Heroes as far as "new" sideprojects go.

Think Selfless. Then imagine Selfless was good. Then improve Selfless another couple of hundred percent. That's J2.

Don't tell me the vitriol is mellowing with age! For me it only festers and multiplies!

New JK Flesh is great. Newer Final is mostly great. I hated 3. Waited all those years for it and was disappointed. Grey Machine was solid IMO. Pale Sketcher is subdued and definitely more accessible. I quite like it.

But asking us which side project is good spanning 10 years...you'll get a rather varied list of suggestions. Jesu's 'Every Day' is my favorite in years. Surely others disagree.

So, it's not quite as bad a Pure then?

I guess it depends on the approach of each release... some have a lot of long tracks... if you look at TA's Re-entry, 9 out of 12 tracks are over 10min for example...

Infinite Guitar 4. Still haven't made it through even half the album cause I don't have 3 hours to sit and listen to it.

I'm sure Justin has said J2 was a set of remixes he did for Jarboe rather than a collaboration. The label then decided to release it as J2 rather than a remix album. Personally I think it would be alright as a purely instrumental release without Jarboe's looped wailing.
