To all my niggas, just to say hello and I hope you are all doing fine. I am on my lunch break of the workshop I am having in Istanbul, Turkey and am perusing the fine wireless connection this hotel has to offer. In case you were wondering, the weather is cloudy but warm and I can hear the muyazin call for prayer through the window.

Over the past three days it has been meetings most of the day but I did manage to see some of the mportant historic/ religious monuments like Aya Sofia and the Sultanahmet Mosque aka the Blue Mosque (which, in case you were wondering is not remotely blue). The evenings are of course spent being surrounded by beautiful women bringing me drinks and demonsrating bellydance for my viewing pleasure (note: I am NOT kidding) and discussing the American policy in the middle east. Last night we had a dinner on a boat crising across the Bosphors and I officially crossed to the other continent (Asia, for the geographically challenged people like me) by not even having to get my arse off the seat in the boat. I hope I can come up with some photos for you lot, just have to get them from one or more of my colleagues. But in the meantime, you people keep having fun.

Awesome, I'm jealous! I'm visiting Istanbul in February, a friend of mine moved there recently, can't wait! Sounds like an amazing city.

So, who's more welcome in Istanbul, a Genocidal Serb or a peaceful American?

Looks pretty dark to me, I mean really . It's probably aggressive and real but very, very black there in Istanbul.

Probably sth with the pics, eh? Very Happy

Hang on a second... how does a guy go from being a 36 year old man holding a giant upside cross in front of teenage black metallers to cruising a luxury yacht around Istanbul with hotties on each arm? This is not the same guy, Someone in Turkey has hacked the most advanced Photoshop upgrade to ever hit the market and is making fools of all of us.

I agree, TIM. Look how awkward his body language is in all those pics, totally out of synch with the festive air and relaxed camraderie of his "colleagues". Apparently, CGI is alive and well in Serbia.

You guys are obviously just jealous. I can assure you that the 'yacht' was not really that luxurious (at least the food was vegetarian) and the hotties in pics were doing it all just for their fun, not mine... My body language is awkward because I have awkward body - that's simple. But Jason is right, you COULD call this an avalanche of pleasure. But with pleasure always comes pain, never forget that. Buddha was right, when you discard the emotions, only that is when the pain stops. Unfortunately, I am back in the office on Friday...

Oh, that she does, but, and I can't believe I'm actually saying it, the prettiest thing on her is her smile. Other than that, she is a very good friend of mine and I'll make sure to tell her she got this kind of a compliment, hehehehe.

I know, I know... But look at that smile (she's in one of the pics, smiling) and tell me I am not right... Otherwise a very bright young person who I wouldn't be surprised to see going a long way up in this international humanitarian movement of ours... If that portuguese guy with glasses that you can see in the last pic doesn't break her heart first and drives her away from the whole Red Cross/ Red Crescent thing, hehehe. Josh, she's coming your way this winter so, if you'd like to wish her welcome, be my guest.

Is she coming to the States, the east coast or actually to Philadelphia? if she makes it out my way, I'd be happy to roll out the red carpet for her, as long as you arrange for her boyfriend to be involved in some kind of nasty industrial accidental prior to arrival.

Okay, thanks, dude, much appreciated. Sorry about that "bombing your country" thing from a few years back.

Oh, Istanbul definitely IS a beautifully looking city. I mean, it combines the European and the oriental mood/ mentality plus it has a lot of different architecture: byzantine, ottoman, mediterranean... Somehow all these styles look good together. Being a bit of a peasant myself, I can freely say this is the biggest town I have ever been in (possible exclusion of London there) and there is so many nice things to see here I would encourage everyone to visit it when they can... For me, the blend of byzantine/christian, ottoman/ islamic and post Attaturk Turkish styles/ cultures is an interesting andpotent phenomenon. Just seeing the weird combination that Aya Sofia is (byzantine architecture, islamic ornamentation) made this trip worthwhile for me... And most of the people I have run into are very nice too, but then again, I was in a group full of foreigners so that probably accounts for something...

One of the many reasons I'm looking forward to seeing Istanbul is that it has a longer history than any city I've ever been to...

That, and the hot chicks, of course.

Josh, she is coming to the East Coast, but not specifically to Philly. Her sister and brother-in-law are working at their respective phd theses at two different universities at the east coast so she will travel a bit I imagine. She usually spends between three and four weeks at a time there so you can plan around that timeframe, hehehehe. And the Portuguese guy is not her boyfriend yet, although I did my best to advocate his case these couple of days, hehehehe. He deserves some help, he is a good man. But now we're slipping into a territory of other people's private lives and I am starting to feel uncomfortable... So, to change the subject, I'll go have a shower now...
