The Snare. Ahh the snare. A bit o sound design. 2 sampled real snares and another sample of a snare sound I created using an old trunk, change, empty cd cases, etc... all fused.
Everything was done more or less 'in box' on an Akai DPS12i. I bumped shit around when 'mastering' with another DAW. I used an outboard Carvin 12 channel mixer. All percussion/samples from my trusty MPC. I don't use drum programs though. I sample everything myself then mix, match, and tweak. I have the 8 out expander so I can run different sounds through to separate mixer channels and the sum the tracks into a stereo pair on the DAW.
I 'noname' brand free electric guitar(thanks Glen!), some kind of bass guitar, a borrowed J-station, a Digitech RP-7 fx thingy, and an SM58 mic.
I would love any feedback/criticism. This was my first time doing this. I pretty much learned as I went. Couldn't really 'play' any instruments at 1st.
I downloaded it without any problem.
First, looking at the tracklist, i thought there was a lot of songs, then listening to it, i saw that half is just short interludes.
I really like the sound, it's drony, distorted, hypnotic, yes, it sounds like real songs. I like the vocals too, even tho it's a bit monotonous on the long run.
I would be curious to see that in a live context.
'In my life so far, I have discovered that there are really only two kinds of people: those who are for you, and those who are against you. Learn to recognize them, for they are often and easily mistaken for each other.'
I like the vocals too, even tho it's a bit monotonous on the long run.
Yeah. Kind of hard at first not to get lulled into a comfortable spot with some vocals I thought worked. I found recording them intimidating at first. Eventually experimenting a little bit(i.e. Desert and Delerious).
Thanks man! Appreciate the feedback!
yes, it sounds like real songs.
I structured the cuts to allow it to be played on shuffle for a bit of a different experience by itself or with other shit. I also tried to make it all somewhat self referential, with pieces coming to the surface at different times. TRIED anyway.
Oooooo nah it was nice and thick and nasty in the subs hehe. PROPER
The chinchillas were a little agitated but Im subjecting them to it again!
Fuck them they keep biting me anyways.
I dig it man.. I can totally see what Klawful means with the Beck and Flaming Lips, but thats a good thing.. Its like if Beck were to take some fucked up drugs and decide to make something more industrial.. And the melody lines are totally flashing me back to Flaming Lips kinda stuff. Not a ripoff Im saying, but when Matt put it like that it made me go 'Oh yeah!!' hehe.
