Out Sept. 18th. So I guess a few of us have either received legal or illegal promo copies of it. I listened to it 5-6 times by now and I am not sure what to make of it. It's quite good, allthough the second half of the record is always a bit of a blur to me. There's some hardcore beatdown parts and some old school frost riffs I like quite a bit in the napalm sound. I think it's at least as good as "Code"
The only thing I am not yet sure about is the production. Either its very raw and punk or just muddy...

muddy? hmm that wasnt my impression of it... perhaps I'm just getting old and I'm suffering the onslaught of tinnitus haha.. or perhaps the copy I've heard is too trebly... maybe thats the dobly
I like the new cd.. but then I'm biased.. I like the vast majority of ND's tunage.. on the new album I particularly like the fact that its Mitch' vocals that open the album... that was unexpected and its a great tune to open with imho.. |

Yeah that first song is the shit!!
I love Mitch's stuff!!
Its one of those that makes me wanna punch folks.
The second half has a great little sequence that starts with track 12-14..
Cant remember what 12 is but 13 is Rabid Wolves of Christ and Mitch goes OFF again with the vocals.. And the riffs man..
I look at em like Slayer nowadays.. Napalm Death is GREAT at being Napalm Death.. They got sidetracked for a bit but theyve come back around doing what they do best.. And it kicks ass!!
I think I may even stomach the likes of Hatebreed and The Black Dahlia Murder to see em when they tour next month...
Muddy though?? This shit is crunchy!! |

This is the first Napalm Death album I can actually listen to ever since Utopia Banished (am I hardcore er what?) Having said that, I still have to make it past track 7 or 8 where I lose interest and drift off to listen to Bonnie Tyler or something. But, aye, the opener (Sink Fast Let Go) is actually a proper killer and there's some nice stuff later on too.. I actually thik the production is rather slick and polished but perhaps I've just spent too much time listening to lo-fi grindcore... So, a lot like the new Slayer album, this is good, competent, better than the last few records but at the same time nowhere near revolutionary and certainly surpassed by a lot of other stuff by other bands out there. |
