Never seen that movie Golz?

Everyone has to see every single Jim Jarmusch's movie.

That's a must!

Here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000464/

I've seen Broken Flowers and Stranger Than Paradise by Jarmusch. Both quite decent, but I'd say I prefer the latter.

Just finished watching Sleuth by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Very entertaining and well done.

After a huge drought of watching films on the big screen I am trying to get back into watching movies more regularly, so since the start of the year I have seen:

No country for old men - Really really liked this one!

The Darjeeling Limited - I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or hate it. I was pretty tired and almost fell asleep at times (so not too encouraging)... but it has it moments. I'm not sure if it goes anywhere, so I still don't know if I liked it or not Confused

2 Days in Paris - I knew nothing of this one but it was great!!! The director is also the lead actress, scriptwriter, music maker etc. plus it has her real parents (playing the role of her parents) and her sister doing the same too! A very funny take on relationships, and too many similarities between the couple in the movie and my own relationship with my wife Shocked

Atonement - It has some nice scenery but it was lacking a lot for me and I really do not like Keira Knightly (not good scenery). I had seen the shorts and for some reason was expecting a completely different main storyline. I wouldn't rush out and see this one.

Juno - A good fun film. One to have a chuckle to on a Sunday afternoon.

Lust, Caution - I have to say the main actresses nipples could take a persons eye out!!! An at times gripping storyline about spying and assasinations set in China about a chinese groups resistance to the japanese occupation. Interesting.

There are a fair few films out at the moment, and having 2 good arthouse cinemas at the top of the street, and another within 10 minutes walk, it's easier to see a film then get a DVD. But I have seen a few DVDs lately, but can only recommend:

This is England - Check it out.

Bleh, watch the lead actress in the film "Hard Candy". Very good film and much better than Juno.

just went to see Cloverfield at the cinema. enjoyed it a lot to my surprise, it has a very authentic disaster movie feel and the effects are pretty spellbinding. It never lingers too long on any one aspect as well - the pace is pretty damn good throughout. i think it's one of those films that is going to have to be seen in the cinema though.

Hard Candy is at the top of my to see list (on DVD), I missed it when it came out here and it did get some very good reviews!

Sometimes it is nice to see something that doesn't make you think too much and can chill out to. I found Juno did that for me.

Utter waste of film ...

Most recent watch:

Once Upon A Time In The West

They don't make them more perfect than this ...

I don't intend to watch but thank for the warning anyway. What happened to Steven Soderbergh?. The guy came out of nowhere with one the strongest debut films ever: sex, lies and videotapes, but every film after that one has never been as good. How have the mighty fallen...

Watched a couple over the weekend. The Illusionist, another magician related film out around the same time as The Prestige. Better than The Prestige I reckon, less glossy, better plot. It's no 2001 but worth a look on a rainy night.

The Fountain. I think this was talked about in a thread on here a while back. I like Aronofsky, although it has to be said previously he has been a bit "style over substance". This time I reckon the substance was there too. Interesting premise and well executed. And for the first time ever I actually found Hugh Jackman watchable. It was quite touching too. A quibble would be that unless you watch the extras how are you supposed to know that the guy in the bubble is a 26th century astronaut? Or maybe it doesn't really matter if you know? Anyway, I enjoyed it.

I needed a laugh this weekend to get rid of some stress...so my gf & I checked out "Semi-Pro".

I thought it was rather funny...

last night I watched "Gycklarnas afton" (aka. - Sawdust and Tinsel)

The lighting was not the best in parts but I enjoyed this B/W film.

The dreamlike feel and mirror effects were great.

I found this at IMDB - Originally marketed in the States as a sex film under the title "The Naked Night".

I don't understand how this is a sex film. The most skin you see is cleavage and it is nothing out of the ordinary.

I saw Gosford Park on telly the other night: what a load of old cock.
It was like a bad Agatha Christie knock-off packed with luvvies. Someone would probably claim that the fact that plotlines were left dangling and I couldn't even identify half the characters (never mind care about them) is some kind of genius subversion of cinematic norms, but I just thought it was badly written toss.

Edit: Jesus. I just discovered Julian Fellowes got an Oscar for writing this rubbish. Good grief...

For the sake of technology & psychedelic trips combined, I watched 2010: the year we make contact.
A review's in the review section.

Mind Synth, that's a good movie you've just watched! Loved the visuals. The connection with chaos.
They should make more movies with more sequences like that!

However.
Anybody noticed how Family Guy started to suck seriously ever since that writer's strike thing?

Oh yeah! Right now downloading No Country, the thread sparked my attention!

About sillyness. You've got to deal with it. Most of the coolest & trippiest films are going to have one or two heavily goofed elements.

Like the noticably bad actors of Scanners.
Or the nerdiness of Star Wars IV & V.
Or the retarded script of Psych-Out.
Videodrome. This is kind of self-explanatory.

They're just simply cool movies with no deep artistic intentions at all. So they have to have an attitude. Which means they have to suck at some time, and be willing not to fuckin apologize for it haha!

We'd be damn fucked if only people like Fellini and Lynch knew how to make good movies.
