Mrs elrreK is going to be in LA for a few days soon so we have been on a trip of watching films that depict LA, SSSOOOO many good films.
Chinatown (Polanski is an asshat but what a film)
Drive (fucking awesome)
Heat (classic)
Argo (stunningly good film)
Trying to find "Collateral" on streaming later this week. |

Tetsuo: The iron man. Japanese cyberpunk. Great soundtrack in places
A field in England. another Ben Wheatley gem I hadn't seen yet for some reason
The lair of the white worm. Two words: Amanda Donahoe. Very cheesy but decent fun.
Belladonna of Sadness. animation with a great jazz soundtrack.
Manos. Every bit as bad as the reviews made it out to be. |

I dream of wires. Awesome analogue synth documentary.
Wetlands. Really not sure what to think of this. Some funny bits, some sweet bits but even though I'm not squeamish, some scenes were a bit much...
Lo Sound Desert. A bit unfocussed but pretty decent documentary.
Greasy Strangler. One of the worst things I've ever seen.
Escape from Tomorrow. Really enjoyed this. |

Greasy Strangler was unbearably wretched and awful.... |

Apparently it won best comedy at Empire. I think it's the worst thing i've seen in years. |

It was fucking dreadful...
I'm interested in seeing this 80s horror throwback film called The Void...I think maybe it has been out a while in Europe but just got a US release...anyone seen it? |

Not seen it but it looks interesting.
More movies:
Borgman. I'm a big fan of van Warmerdam's ml ies and this one did not dissapoint. Funny, dark, weird.
Lost River. Got bad reviews but I enjoyed it. More than a few hints of Lynch and Refn.
Zardoz. I finished it. |

Lost River had the Lynch stamp all over it...and even some Harmony Not one influence...
Zardoz is part genius and part pure absurdity...Not Boormans best....The big 3 for Borrman is: Point Blank,Deliverance and Excalibur... |

I'm not saying the greasy strangler was good but I think I preferred it to suicide squad that I watched after |

Zardoz is one of the greatest films that has ever been made.
Sean Connery is a powerhouse of acting and his costume design is unparalleled, only when Leeloo Dallas turns up in The 5th Element does something even close to such genius appear again on screen. |

The Lost City of Z....absolutely fucking spell-binding....the best "epic" film I have seen in a very long time...
And yeah Blue Ruin was incredible(still liked Green Room better)...that director has another film also but I haven't seen it and I can't recall the name at the moment... |

Fargo, Saul and the last man are great, not seen the others. I still need to watch the last season of Rectify, Aquarius, The Path, Baskets, Man in the high castle, Trapped and Vice Principals. I also really enjoyed the first episode of American Gods. |

Kentucky Fried Movie. Not good.
Possession. Not good either. Hysterical acting. Sex with an octopus.
Immoral tales. Lots of boobies, not much else. |
