also, just before White Wolf in Van I read Ready Player One.

A much lighter book than WWiV, but kind of a cool pairing with it as back-to-back reads--both deal to a degree with invented fantasy worlds providing escape from a decrepit present for the main characters.

quick read, briskly paced and filled to the brim with 80's pop culture references.

oh, and just before those 2--Reflections, an Oral History of Twin Peaks. Interviews with a good chunk of the cast and crew about the whole run--from the giddiness of pulling off something very unique in the beginning to the bitter end.

released not too long ago, I wonder if there will be an updated edition with thoughts on the new episodes.

thanks--and are you applying your research in the field?

unrelated, but reminds me when i had a book that supposedly listed every spaghetti western made and tried to start working through as many as I could find, and found a drop off after the Leone/Eastwood films to the other Sergios-- Corbucci (Django, Great Silence) and Sollima (Big Gundown, Face to Face) along with a handful of other decent films remarkable for a new twist or a decent actor and then there's a huge dropoff into the swamp of everything else--there was alot of crap, but it was fun.

I've ploughed through a tonne of books recently, highlights including:

Rupert Thomson - Katherine Carlyle
I love Thomson's books but found 'Secrecy' a bit underwhelming. This was a proper return to form, an amazing sense of freedom in the approach and writing - combined with ice-cold prose (literally). Probably the closest book to my previous favourite of his 'the book of revelations'

Michael Marshall Smith - Only Forward
Fucking bonkers, starts off like Die Hard crossed with Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy and ends up a very poignant look at growing up, broken dreams, etc

Jeff Vandermeer - Southern Reach Trilogy (Annihilation/Authority/Acceptance)
Completely amazing; every single sentence had me hooked and either thrilled, moved, freaked out, or amused - Seriously, seriously in love with these books.

...now onto The Illuminatus! Trilogy
