V? Really? That's one show I actually made an effort to watch as I was a big fan of the original when I was a kid. Like The Prisoner remake I found it to be a load of old rubbish, just like every other contemporary American sci-fi show, and I tuned out after four or five episodes.

That's a lot of TV Golz, where do you find the time to fit it all in?!

going through twin peaks again...

the end of episode 7 of season 2 "lonely souls" is still pretty horrifying and affecting.

I forgot just how far into season 2 there is still good material before it really derails...

I actually didnt get to watch much of the original V, it came on too late and I had to be in bed but I thought the new one was pretty rad. Theyve got a good way of building it up and up and ending on a WTF HAPPENS NEXT?? note after just about every episode that kept us watching it every week. All the twists and turns between the guys in the Fifth Element were starting to get pretty crazy when season 2 ended.

I want to see a damn war happen already though!

I found the 10DVD gold set in our local library a couple of months ago. I managed to get through the first series in two weeks before I had to bring it back, but now that I'm trying to get on to the second series it always seems to be out on loan to some other loser 90's throwback.

It was strange watching it again after so long, I'd forgotten that there was such a huge element of comedy in it. I guess only the dark bits stayed in my subconsciousness over the years. The dark bits and the girls that is! Shocked

Sad to see the end of psychoville. This season was better than the first. Trend has been renewed but even though I still like it it could do with a bit more action..

Trend? That should be Treme of course. Still liking it but not much happening. Also finally getting going on Ideal. Not a big fan of Johnny Vegas but he's pretty good in this.

Yeah the new season of Treme has been pretty much hit and miss. They started on a weak note but since the fith episode it has gotten better fortunately.

I just finished watching the 5th season of Stargate: Atlantis.

1. A perfect example of the law of diminishing returns.
2. I am glad it got cancelled, it deserved to be.
3. How a series can get 20 odd episodes for a season and only the 2nd to last was any good really is beyond me, and the episode was SO out of character it probably was only registering as "good" because it was so different from their weak formula.

It's summer, fuck staying in and watching DVDs. I'm going out to get dru*** ride my bike.

I'm liking it...I mean this season is really just one big prelude that sets the pieces on the board...it will all be about the next season.

A lot of my friends dug this in the beginning but were very disappointed with some of the later episodes. They were expecting large and epic battles with loads of special effects and also didn't expect a show that kills of main characters.

I like the tactical and psychological side of the things which also a major focus of the show...it doesn't have to be all massive cgi for me..one on one battles can be evenly exciting to me...anyway the show is yet to begin really...

short but sweet interview that addresses some of the issues that are bothering people in GoT. Not having huge battles seems to be an understandable financial issue. killing of major characters, well, that's the book. i have been pretty impressed on how faithful the translation has been--yet alive in it's own way.

that's a danger of being too faithful, that it's an accurate pictorial of the book, but dead on screen as it slavishly moves from scene to scene. must be an interesting process to decide what to keep, what to let exposition take care of, what elements to from the book to focus on to keep the spirit of the thing intact.

@Klawfull,

have you read the books? Because I'd be interested in reading the first volume "game of thrones" now that I've seen the first season. My obvious fear is that it will spoil some of the events not yet portrayed in the TV show (and most likely are forthcoming in the next season).

Care to comment on this? How's the spoiler factor?

reading all the books hasn't ruined the show for me and i've enjoyed seeing how right they've gotten the source material and been interested to see how it matched what i imagined while reading. So you can take that for what it's worth.

Granted it's been about 5 years I think since I read the last, and most recent book (until next month when the new one is released)--so there's things I've forgotten and can be surprised by in the show, but all the major events I recall.

But for sure you'll not be surprised by the twists and turns the story takes in later books/seasons--and there are many.

If you want to save the show as a fresh story experience but could use some summer reading in the same ballpark, I'd recommend the Prince of Nothing series by R Scott Bakker. Has a certain similarities to GoT, in atleast that there is a gritty realism as far as the genre goes and some great original ideas. It's atleast on par with the GoT books, maybe better in my opinion.

"The Darkness that Comes Before" is the first book.

yeah.. ha! that's what I liked about it, though. the weird juxtaposition of bad soap opera drama, comedy and darkness--and the girls! Speaking of loser 90's throwbacks, I am sadly hoping for something to commemorate 25 years--since there was that line of "I'll see you again in 25 years". Maybe just a Black Lodge talk show. Jürgen Prochnow's "woodsman" character from FWWM can maybe get a chance to speak.

The music of Twin Peaks is a real sticking point with me. It's not like I listen to the soundtrack on its own (although I had a roommate who played Angelo Badalamenti and Julie Cruise a lot years ago). In that show, it's remarkable that they used the same handful of musical/ambient passages over and over and over again and they never stopped making the perfect complement to specific types of moments. There was the playful blues-y passage, the dark/scary sweep, the overwhelming emotional theme... very cool approach. I can't really think of any other show that has done what Twin Peaks did with music in such a reduced, arguably predictable, yet totally effective manner.

Finished the latest season of Treme. Very good season ending that wrapped up most story lines nicely.
Still making my way through all seasons of Ideal. Brilliant stuff, not only dark and weird humour but very touching in places too. And great music (Coil, the Fall and Teledubgnosis amongst others)
New Curb is pretty good too.

The amount of flack flung at this last season by folk unwilling to show any patience has been really fucking annoying. Glad to say that most of them retracted their grievances by season's end.

Finished season 3 of Breaking Bad, and it smoked. What a cliffhanger, I might have to watch season 4 as it airs, don't know if I can wait until dvd this time.

MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD

I'm kinda surprised by Walt's loyalty to Jesse... Is it totally believable? Personally, I think Jesse is often annoying and really volatile, but it's possible Walt has developed some paternal feelings for that relentless fuck-up. Or maybe Walt feels like sticking by Jesse is the lesser of two evils at this point, given the sordid shit that he has done, and of course there's the guilt factor with the way Jesse's ex-girlfriend expired.

Yeah I have to admit I sort of lost patience a bit after a few episodes this season as it didnt really seem to go anywhere but the last 2 episodes have been great. It will be interesting to see what will happen next season as most story lines have been closed....

New season of Breaking Bad starts next week...

Season 3 outlines for Treme are largely interesting, even if a few bits and bobs are still sketchy at the moment.

For all the Twin Peaks fans:

The show had and continues to have impact on me. Even though I've watched every episode a billion times by now.

Strangely, even though I started watching it from the first episode when it first aired; my initial impression was that Season One was pretty boring. It only got good for me at the end of Season One and more specifically the first episode of Season Two. Yeah, it could be quite funny at times. I even watched "On the Air" for the two weeks or so that was on tv...

Anyway: Twin Peaks Season Two: underrated. I'm not saying it was pure gold, but it was in fact better than most people seem to recall.

Did anyone catch the Breaking Bad premiere sunday?? They were supposed to show a sneak preview of Walking Dead season 2.
I missed it cause BB is on at the same time Curb Your Enthusiasm is and I am not missing my weekly dose of Larry David being an asshole!

Larry was good too, but nothing on next week's ep, which is up there with the best of them.
