right now I am not listening to anything because I am too lazy to plug in mu iPod, but... I just had to comment the EXCELLENT selection by mister I don't need God. At the mountains of madness is perhaps the best thing Zorn has done in the last three years or so (even though I think he made some fantastic records lately). It's as if Miles Davis was alive and jewish....
I put off buying this for a while even though I was excited at the line up because, as I said in the Zorn thread, I was somewhat burnt out on him. I picked it up finally a few days ago and It's all I've been listening to! This is one of the finest Zorn releases period. The band is ON FIRE! Ribot and Baron in particular are like GODS of their instruments on these. And it's all live!
Absolutely. It's like everything Zorn was doing for the last 30 years refined and distilled into two discs of fantastic music. I also only listned to that album for a couple of days after I got it. And, yes, Ribot is in incredible form. But it's not Joey Barron on drums - the drummer for that tour was that Kenny Whatshisname guy that played for Masada the last several years....
Oh, you're right, I checked the Tzadik website and both of them are listed. As well as Cyro Baptista. I think there were no two drummers at each show because to my ear it sounds like one set of drums plus assorted percussion but then again my ear has been wrong on many occassions. In any case this is a terryfying record.
Thanks Mr. James for the Talking Heads- recommendations. Sidney looks a bit like Bela Lugosi in that avatar, dont you think?
Road To Nowhere has become my favourite from the Talking Heads compilation- although perhaps just because it's the easiest to catch on in the beginning.
In any case, I'd wish that in some way Broadrick would do something like this in context of jesu.
This particular track just brought it in my mind - perhaps it's the repetetive nature reminded me of jesu. = P Lightweight, a truly feel-good pop song that is playful and optimistic without being naive.
Four minutes of the same kind of positivity that can be found in the mindset of Albert Camus- now that's what pop music should provide.
Hibakusha- Love your avatar. Lance is the man.
Yes, he is.
There's no justice in the world- he deserves to be in better movies.
Although, Lance seems to enjoy every role he gets, and there seems to be this certain aura of "sincerity" in him, maybe he just wants to get any kind of parts. That, or his pottery work isn't making enough dough.
There's the movie Knights that I'd really hope to get on dvd someday- it's b-class post-apocalyptic (á la Mad Max- desert scenery) martail arts movie. It's good- in the same way as Plan 9 from outer space and Commando are good movies. But Lance Henriksen is what really makes it shine.
Lance is a head of the cyborgs that have slaved human beings to some extent. He's name is Job- and he's insane.
Yes, it's trash, but it's really funny trash! I loved how Lance kept puking spit all over himself and others - What the FK?? I mean it was just ridiculous.
LOL Jeez and how 'bout that mechanical monster arm with just one useless 'finger' at the end of it that really couldn't do anything but curl? Whoever thought that up was twisted and confused, but a name actor actually consenting to wearing it - Oh, Lance you were such an ASS in this movie... (But it still makes this priceless).
Anway- Lance rocks not only because of own kind of charisma and how it goes together with his roles- but also because he seems quite sincere and earnest as an person.
But that's just could just be my obsession fanboyism talking.
